With SUV sales lagging in recent years, Ford is set to unveil a new Explorer this month that they hope will appeal to consumers looking for better fuel economy.
The new Explorer model is lighter weight and is build on the underpinnings of a car rather than a truck. It will be equipped with a smaller engine, with the option of an "EcoBoost" engine, a four-cylinder engine with the power of a V6.
Ford says that no matter whether consumers opt for the EcoBoost engine or the standard V6, both will improve gas mileage significantly, by 30% and 20% respectively.
