Obama stimulus to pay for 15,000 home electric-car charging units

General Motors has announced that buyer's of its Chevy Volt could be eligible to receive a free home charging station thanks to the Obama administration's economic stimulus package.

Up to 4,400 Volt purchasers (out of 15,000 total electric-vehicle purchasers) could be eligible for the free charging stations, valued at up to $2,000 each. In addition to encouraging consumers to purchase electric vehicles, the program also hopes to study electric vehicle usage to help plan for the infrastructure changes that will be needed to accommodate these vehicles in the future.
