Blind Drivers Could Take The Road: National Federation Of The Blind And Virginia Tech To Unveil Prototype Car With 'Nonvisial Interfaces'

Could new technology allow blind people to drive cars? The National Federation of the Blind and Virginia Tech are set to unveil a new innovation called "nonvisual interfaces" that they plan to demonstrate in a prototype vehicle next year.

The technology will use sensors to transmit information about surrounding cars and other objects, allowing a driver to steer the car without the need to see around them.

"We're exploring areas that have previously been regarded as unexplorable," said Dr. Marc Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind. "We're moving away from the theory that blindness ends the capacity of human beings to make contributions to society."
